The Town of Songkhla is regarded as the center of development in the southern region with sophisticated fishing pier, several marine product industries and a deep seaport contributing to its rapid growth. Contrary to the infrastructure, development has been lagged behind. This results in the town being confronted with environmental problems, particularly the pollution of Songkhla Lake, Khlong Kwang, Khlong Samrong and the beach along the southern part of the town. The problem stems from wastewater from households and industries being discharged directly to the waterways has apparently deteriorated, causing adversely effect to the health of the public as well as the beautiful scenery of the lake and beach.
