Dambreak Study of Klong Tha Dan Dam, Amphoe Muang, Nakhon Nayok Province.

Klong Tha Dan Project is located at Lat. 14 deg. 8’-34” N, Long. 101 deg 19’-27” E, at Ban Tha Dan, Tambon Hin Tueng, Amphoe Muang, Nakhon Nayok  Province, a distance of approx. 22 km along the river north of Amphoe Muang. The project catchment area is approx. 194 sq.km. The area is a mountainous area with steep slopes, the mountain summits are approx. 1,000 – 1,300 m. above mean sea level (msl). The mountainous area average height is +400 m. msl. The steam descending down the mountain has steep slopes which can cause flash floods. The stream length from the stream origin to the dam site is approx. 42 km, the stream slope from the dam site to Bang Pakong river confluence is approx. 1:5,000.

The area downstream form the dam is flat plain with the average height of 3-4 m. msl. The first part is a not to wide plain at the foot of the mountain, the plain gradually expands downstream. The objectives of Dam Break Study for Klong Tha Dan Project are as follows: to analyze and identify the causes of dam break in order to set up the measures against such causes, and to study and analyze the conditions of dam collapse, extent of damage including the resulting environmental effects.

Furthermore, the objectives include the setting up of the emergency preparedness plan for the community in case of dam break, and to set up Klong Tha Dan Project management plan to ensure safe and efficient operation. To analyze the characteristics and phenomena of dam break occurrence, and to set up the emergency preparedness plan for the community, including the preventive measures to reduce the risk of dam break occurrence.

The scopes of study are as follows :

• Study and analysis Dam Break for Klong Tha Dan Dam.
  
• Study and Setting up of Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP).
• Study and Setting up of the Klong Tha Dan Management Plan to ensure safety, risk reduction and efficiency.
• Provide a training for RID officials to transfer the community EPP and Klong Tha Dan Management Plan to ensure safety, risk reduction and efficiency.
